Fall 2008 Anime Lineup

September 25, 2008 Leave a comment Go to comments

Fall is my favorite season for new anime. It’s usually the time when many great series are released or when awaited sequels are finally shown. Thirty-seven anime are showing this fall, excluding released OVAs. Let’s see if this season can keep up to last fall’s wonderful releases. I won’t be watching all of them, though, so I’ll divide my watching verdicts to: YES, MAYBE and NO.

* Please note that I am not much into shoujo/shounen/seinen manga and if there are manga counterparts of these series, I most probably haven’t read them unless I specify. That means I have no idea about most of the new anime. V. clouded judgment? LOL XD.

Battle Spirits: Shōnen Toppa Version (バトルスピリッツ 少年突破バシン)
Date: September 07, 2008 @ TV Asahi
Website: http://battlespirits.com/
Trailer: here
Introduction: The anime adapts Bandai’s Battle Spirits trading card game, in which cards represent dragons, demons, birds, insects, and other spirits that the players will control in battles.
Seiyuu Spotlight: Kanda Akemi
Verdict: NO. I’ve never been a fan of trading card anime or anything near that. This seems to be just the same as Yu-Gi-Oh in terms of general plot. The characters look cuter, though @_@, especially that white-haired guy <3. The art is mediocre, both in 2D and 3D (the monsters summoned are in 3D), and I’ve seen better art in a card game series. Kanda Akemi seems to be the seiyuu for the main character. I haven’t heard her voice a guy since my memory of her is her character in Moyashimon ^^;.

Hakushaku to Yousei (伯爵と妖精)
Date: September 28 @ AT-X, Chiba TV
Website: http://www.myfairy.tv/
Trailer: here
Introduction: The story is set in 19th century England and centers on a “fairy doctor” named Lydia. Her life takes a 180-degrees turn when she meets a legendary blue knight count named Edgar and his crew. He hires her as an adviser during his quest to obtain a treasured sword that was supposed to be handed down to him by his family.
Seiyuu Spotlight: Midorikawa Hikaru, Mizuki Nana, Yuuki Hiro, Kamiya Hiroshi, Miyano Mamoru, Koyasu Takehito, Sugita Tomokazu, Ohkawa Tooru
Verdict: YES. I’ve been waiting for it ever since it was announced! The art reminded me a bit of Ouran, since Hakushaku really looks like Tamaki. It’s also not your usual anime (I hope). After all, most of the time, this unfortunate girl falls in love with v. rich man and they end up together. This time, there’s a bit of suspense going on about the sword and the hakushaku hiring the fairy doctor as an adviser. The trailer intrigues me so. I also have to admit that the seiyuu drew me into being excited about this series. I mean, powerhouse cast! All with handsome voices! Plus Midorikawa Hikaru hasn’t been in main roles lately and I missed him a lot <3. I wonder if this will turn out to be like an otome anime…

Toradora! (とらドラ!)
Date: October 1 @ TV Tokyo, AT-X
Website: http://www.starchild.co.jp/special/toradora/
Trailer: none
Introduction: Despite Ryūji Takasu’s gentle personality, his eyes make him look like an intimidating delinquent so he is utterly hopeless about his chances of getting a girlfriend anytime soon, and does not have many close friends either. After being greeted by his hungover mother in the morning, Ryūji goes to school and is happy to find that he gets to be in the same class as his best friend Yūsaku Kitamura and crush Minori Kushieda. However, it is then that he unexpectedly knocks into “the school’s most dangerous animal of the highest risk level” — Taiga Aisaka — who just happens to also be in his class, and is a good friend of Minori.
Seiyuu Spotlight: Majima Junji (Oogami Souma in Kannazuki no Miko), Kugimiya Rie, Nojima Hirofumi, Tanaka Rie, Horie Yui
Verdict: MAYBE. I have really steered clear of series with that kind of introductory summary ^^;. Either it’ll be a lolicon/ecchi series or a harem/fanservice one and neither is my favorite. I’ll try to watch the first episode, maybe and continue my judgment from there~. I’m going to say this now, though, Kugimiya Rie and Horie Yui is in EVERYTHING.

Rosario + Vampire Chapter 2 (ロザリオとバンパイア Capu2)
Date: October 1 @ ABC, Chiba TV
Website: http://www.rosa-vam.com/
Trailer: here
Introduction: This is the continuation to the previous Rosario + Vampire.
Seiyuu Spotlight: Saitou Chiwa (Louise Hallevy in Gundam 00), Kishio Daisuke, Nana Mizuki, Kugimiya Rie
Verdict: NO. This is a series with good potential in its first season. Now, I personally think the series is completely brainless. I’d rather watch parody anime, really. The supposedly good start at season 1 is now overshadowed by excessive fanservice, it’s a pity.

Hyakko (ヒャッコ)
Date: October 1 @ TV Tokyo
Website: http://hyakko.jp/
Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0ZOo3rbC3Y
Introduction: The story follows the antics of four high school freshman girls, after they enroll into a huge private academy that teaches every grade from elementary school to high school.
Seiyuu Spotlight: Hirano Aya, Orikasa Fumiko, Kuwashima Houko, Horie Yui
Verdict: MAYBE. I have this huge bias against Hirano Aya. It’s nothing personal, I just don’t like her voice very much, especially when it turns shrilly D:. This is a slice of life series about girls, though, and as long as it doesn’t turn too ecchi, I think I can handle it and ignore Aya when she starts hurting my ears ^^;.

Casshern Sins (キャシャーン SINS)
Date: October 1 @ MBS, Chiba TV
Website: http://casshern-sins.jp/
Trailer: here
Introduction: After decades since the original anime series, the cybernetic warrior returns in this franchise reboot, Casshern Sins. In a world where the powerful robot leader known as Braiking Boss rule over humanity with an iron fist, a mysterious girl named Luna is summoned by the people for salvation. To retaliate against this potential threat, Braiking sends 3 of his most powerful cyborgs, Casshern, Dio and Reda to dispose of her. Casshern manages to kill Luna, plunging the world into a slow descent of annhilation. Hundreds of years later, humanity is almost extinct. Robots constantly replace their body parts, fearing the corrosion of rust: their only form of death. In this wretched time and place, Casshern returns after a lengthy disappearance since his murder of Luna. Having lost his memory, Casshern now defends the humans from the robots, and find out his true identity and purpose. Cassern is about a cyborg who rises against the robotic armies that have subjugated all of humanity.
Seiyuu Spotlight: Furuya Tohru (Amuro Ray; Tuxedo Mask), Yajima Akiko
Verdict: NO. I’m not very fond of futuristic dark mecha-cyborg themes. Although I admit, I am v. curious and might watch to see if Cassern sounds like Amuro Ray/Tuxedo Mask and if Luna sounds like Relena :D.

Yozakura Quartet (夜桜四重奏 ~ヨザクラカルテット~)
Date: October 2 @ TBS, BS-i
Website: http://www.sirius.kodansha.co.jp/yozakura_anime.html
Trailer: none
Introduction: The story revolves around a quartet of teenaged heroes: A super-strong girl named Hime, a mind reader named Ao, a conjurer named Kotoha and an ordinary, powerless boy named Akina. The three girls and Akina protect the city of Sakurashin from supernatural threats.
Seiyuu Spotlight: Misato Fukuen (Ryuna – Shining Tears x Wind; Eruka Frog – Soul Eater), Sawashiro Miyuki (Sasada Jun in Natsume Yujincho, Claire Forrest in Red Garden), Kaji Yuuki (Mikoto in Overdrive).
Verdict: YES. The plot of this series is not rare. Teens with super powers are quite the staple in every season. The art of this anime captured, me, though. I also am very curious about how they’d go about saving their town. I couldn’t find a trailer so I have no idea what to expect ^^;. I don’t know much about the seiyuu cast, too, and I’d like to see how they carry this series.

Shikabane-hime Aka (屍姫 赫)
Date: October 2 @ AT-X, BS-11
Website: http://www.starchild.co.jp/special/shikabanehime/
Trailer: here
Introduction: The title “Corpse Princess” belongs to Makina Hoshimura, an undead girl who seeks to hunt down 108 corpses in order to go to heaven.
Seiyuu Spotlight: Akiyama Nana, Yuuki Aoi, Suwabe Junichi, Sugita Tomokazu, Hirata Yuka
Verdict: YES. Reading the plot and watching the trailer reminds me of Shakugan no Shana and Busou Renkin — it sounds like Shakugan no Shana x Soul Eater ^^;. Still, I don’t want to pass on this one without seeing the first episode. I think the trailer showed a promising plot, plus Angela sung the opening and ending songs XD;. The main seiyuu are new to me aside from the usual suspects: Suwabe, Sugita, etc. But what surprised me is that Hirata Yuka is here. I totally loved her in Gekirangers and I am happy that she’s starting to do voice acting! It could have been just a small part but hey, it’s a start of moving from gravure modeling to proper projects, right?

Kuroshitsuji (黒執事)
Date: October 2 @ TBS
Website: http://www.kuroshitsuji.tv/
Trailer: here
Introduction: One of the noble families of England – Phantomhive, has a butler, Sebastian Michaels. He has unquestionably perfect knowledge, manners, talent with materials. martial arts and much more. But he serves a 12 year old master.
Seiyuu Spotlight: Ono Daisuke, Sakamoto Maaya, Fukuyama Jun, Yusa Kouji, Suwabe Junichi, Paku Romi
Verdict: YES. The shady plot, the handsome butler, the BL references, the awesome seiyuu: all points to YES! The premise reminds me of Hayate no Gotoku. I mean butler, super young master, maid and staff. The setting and atmosphere of this anime is darker, though (what with a demon contract and all xD). I do feel some humor in the trailer but no other clues about a deeper plot. Still, I have a feeling I am going to enjoy this anime, something only fellow BL fans will understand :D.

Hokuto no Ken Raou Gaiden: Ten no Haou (北斗の拳 ラオウ外伝 天の覇王)
Date: October 2 @ Tokyo MX TV
Website: http://www.haoh.tv/
Trailer: here
Introduction: This is the next installment of the Hokuto no Ken series.
Seiyuu Spotlight: Ukaji Takashi, Nakahara Mai, Matsukaze Masaya, Seki Toshihiko, Suwabe Junichi
Verdict: NO. I’m never interested in Fist of the North Star, so no matter how much I like the seiyuu, I don’t have the encouragement to watch this ^^;.

Clannad After Story
(クラナド アフターストーリー)
Date: October 2 @ BS-i, TBS
Website: http://www.tbs.co.jp/clannad/
Trailer: here
Introduction: This is the next installment of Clannad.
Seiyuu Spotlight: Nakahara Mai, Nakamura Yuichi, Sakaguchi Daisuke, Kuwashima Houko, Inoue Kikuko, Okiayu Ryoutarou
Verdict: NO. As much as I love Clannad’s ending theme, I can’t really watch the series. It reminds me of Kanon (from the same developers), which I also did not like, and all the other dating sim games for guys ^^;.

Akane-Iro no Somaru Saka (あかね色に染まる坂)
Date: October 2 @ AT-X, Chiba TV
Website: http://www.mmv.co.jp/special/akasaka/
Trailer: none
Introduction: In order to protect the girl Yuuhi Katagiri, a new transfer student, from danger, Junichi Nagase is forced to kiss her. Not understanding what happend, she screams at him, not knowing that her father has arranged for her to marry him.
Seiyuu Spotlight: Hirano Aya, Kugimiya Rie, Hatano Wataru, Inoue Marina, Tanaka Rie, Ishida Akira
Verdict: NO. I have only seen pictures (I couldn’t find a decent trailer) but this series reeks of fanservice. Even if there is no fanservice, I’m not a fan of this kind of story ^^;;. The seiyuu cast is great though. I haven’t heard from Ishida Akira for a long time…

Tales of the Abyss (テイルズ オブ ジ アビス)
Date: October 3 @ BS-11, Tokyo MX-TV
Website: http://www.tv-toa.jp/
Trailer: here
Introduction: Luke fon Fabre, the spoiled son of a noble from the kingdom of Kimlasca-Lavaldear, has been confined inside his father’s mansion ever since he was kidnapped seven years ago by a rival country, the Malkuth Empire. Now Luke’s memory of the life he led before is missing, and a strange voice, which only he can hear, has been calling out to him ever since. One day while training with his mentor, Van Grants, a strange woman called Tear breaks into the mansion with the sole intent of taking Van’s life. During the struggle Luke is transported far from home, along with Tear, and now that Luke has finally gained the freedom he’s been dreaming of what awaits him in the outside world will shatter everything he’s ever known about himself.
Seiyuu Spotlight: Suzuki Chihiro, Yukana, Nakata Jouji, Koyasu Takehito, Kobayashi Yumiko
Verdict: YES. I’ve heard a lot about the Tales series, but so far I only played and watched Tales of Phantasia ^^; <- old school. I am therefore very curious about the other Tales installments. Suzuki Chihiro is a versatile seiyuu, I think he’ll do Luke’s voice justice. Yukana gives me memories of CC in Code Geass, I wonder how she’ll portray the girl in this series :).

Kurogane no Linebarrels (鉄のラインバレル)
Date: October 3 @ TBS
Website: http://www.linebarrels.jp/english/index.html
Trailer: here
Introduction: An artificial satellite falls to Earth in 2013, seriously injuring Hayase Kouichi. He awakens six months later with strange powers. Three years later, a giant robot called Linebarrel appears and Kouichi joins him to fight for Juda, the largest medical equipment supplier in the world.
Seiyuu Spotlight: Noto Mamiko (Rin in Inuyasha, Enma Ai in Jigoku Shoujo), Kakihara Tetsuya (Simon in Gurren Lagann, Mikoto in Princess Princess), Hirano Aya, Fukuyama Jun, Kugimiya Rie, Nakamura Yuuichi
Verdict: MAYBE. Mecha. I’ve been a follower of the Gundam series, Code Geass, Fafner, etc. But I’m choosy with mecha anime. If the first episode is boring, I might not be encouraged to follow it at all ^^;. The seiyuu are not very familiar with me and Hirano Aya is here again XD; but I’m willing to give this a try and see if it’s as promising as the previous mecha anime.

To Aru Majutsu no Index (とある魔術の禁書目録[インデックス])
Date: October 4 @ MBS, CBC
Website: http://project-index.net/
Trailer: here
Introduction: In a world where science clarifies supernatural powers. In a huge college that has power development in its curriculum. To a resident high school student, Kamijou Touma, a pure white sister appears. She calls herself “Index” and says that sorcerers are chasing her. Thus, Kamijou Touma enters the world of the occult.
Seiyuu Spotlight: Abe Atsushi, Satou Rina (Haruka Minami in Minami-ke), Taniyama Kishou
Verdict: MAYBE. I’m interested in how this series works out. Another series that reminds me of Busou Renkin. Science = Supernatural powers is a total must-see :D. I’ll have to watch the first and second episodes and see if they don’t have too much panty shots and ecchi scenes.

Shugo Chara Doki (しゅごキャラ!二年目)
Date: October 10 @ ATX
Website: http://shugo-chara.com/
Trailer: none
Introduction: A sequel to Shugo Chara.
Verdict: NO. I’ve had enough magical girls. If I want them, I’d watch Sailormoon or Wedding Peach.

Kemeko Deluxe (ケメコデラックス!)
Date: October 4 @ AT-X
Website: http://kemeko.jp/
Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmXKxJHR7tM
Introduction: A chibi robot doll appears in the room of a typical high school boy. The robot claims the boy as her husband and then a beautiful girl comes out of the doll’s mouth who knows the boy from 10 years prior and had been promised his hand in marriage.
Seiyuu Spotlight: Saitou Chiwa, Kitamura Eri, Kawasumi Ayako, Kugimiya Rie, Shiraishi Ryoko
Verdict: NO. More fanservice. Lots of girls. I don’t really like this kind of stuff ^^;. The only thing that interests me is that Kugimiya and Shiraishi are in one anime again, just like in Hayate no Gotoku :D.

Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens (かんなぎ)
Date: October 4 @ MBS, BS11, Animax
Website: http://www.nagisama-fc.com/anime/index.html
Trailer: here
Introduction: An art student named Jin Mikuriya carves a statue from the wood of the Kannagi tree only to have the statue come to life in the form of a goddess, who has now taken over the statue. He and “Nagi” work together to destroy the impurities that are gathering in the town.
Seiyuu Spotlight: Tomatsu Haruka, Shimono Hiro, Nakahara Mai
Verdict: NO. More girls. Crazier girls, based on the title. I’m not really interested.

Jigoku Shoujo Mitsuganae
(地獄少女 三鼎)
Date: October 4 @ Animax, Tokyo MX TV
Website: http://www.jigokushoujo.com/
Trailer: here
Introduction: The second sequel to Jigoku Shoujo
Seiyuu Spotlight: Noto Mamiko, Satou Satomi
Verdict: NO. The first JS season was engaging, the second boring. I am not expecting much from this next installment.

Skip Beat (スキップ・ビート!)
Date: October 5 @ TV Tokyo
Website: http://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/anime/s-beat/
Trailer: none
Introduction: Kyoko has devoted her life to Shotaro. When Shotaro came to Tokyo to debut as a singer, she followed him and worked to provide for him. But one day, Kyoko overhears Shota telling his manager that Kyoko means nothing to him. She’s just convenient, a housekeeper. This makes Kyoko furious, and she vows revenge on Shotaro. But Shotaro just laughs at her, saying she won’t be able to touch him because he’s now a popular singer and she’s a nobody. So Kyoko decides to get into showbiz and become even more popular than Shotaro to humiliate him. Unfortunately, Shotaro has destroyed Kyoko’s ability to love, and she discovers that it is a prerequisite for her to debut from her chosen company, LME. The president of LME puts her into a new section made for those who caught his eye but have something missing. It’s name… Section Love Me.
Seiyuu Spotlight: Konishi Katsuyuki, Inoue Marina, Miyano Mamoru
Verdict: YES YES YES! It was like a dream come true when they announced that they are animating this marvelous manga. Skip Beat is downright shoujo, yes, but not like any shoujo. Unlike most shoujo series where the girl is clumsy and a bit stupid and very very kind and usually bullied, Kyoko is a girl who knows a lot of trades, who is smart when it comes to decision making, and who is a bit evil when being bullied. The fact that she’s going to have an all-out revenge with an old flame instead of trying to win him back again is enough to engage people. I was expecting Morikawa Toshiyuki to be Ren’s voice but they placed Konishi instead. I guess he’s okay. Inoue Marina and Miyano Mamoru are great choices, though, especially Miyano. Oh how I’m looking forward to Miyano’s sexy popstar voice XD;.

Mobile Suit Gundam OO Second Season (機動戦士ガンダム00 セカンドシーズン)
Date: October 5 @ TBS, Mainichi Broadcasting
Website: http://www.gundam00.net/
Trailer: here
Crack Trailer: here
Introduction: It’s the next installment of the Gundam OO series.
Seiyuu Spotlight: Kamiya Hiroshi, Yoshino Hiroyuki, Miyano Mamoru, Miki Shinichirou, Paku Romi (Regene Regetta), Saiga Mitsuki (Revive Revival), Kawasho Mitsuki (Hilling Care), Okiayu Ryoutarou (Bring Stabity), Inada Tetsu (Barrack Zinin)
Verdict: YES. The first season left many questions unanswered, making G00 fans antsy in the pants XD;. I am fervently hoping this season will bring more answers than questions, it’s sometimes tiring to keep going WTF! whenever I watch an episode xD;. Also, please note newly casted seiyuu (with roles in parentheses), and their very interesting names. Hilling Care. Really :).

Maacademi Wasshoi (まかでみWAっしょい!)
Date: October 5 @ AT-X
Website: http://www.macademi.tv/
Trailer: here
Introduction: Magician’s Academy revolves around Takuto Hasegawa, who attends a magic academy that is not marked on any map. During a summoning spell exam, he accidentally creates a girl named Tanarot, who happends to hold enough magical power to destroy his country, but fortunately Tanarot professes undying loyalty to her “creator.”
Seiyuu Spotlight: Koshimizu Ami (Kallen, Saiga Chitose – Special A), Ise Mariya (Ringo – Air Gear), Kawasumi Ayako, Suwabe Junichi, Terashima Takuma
Verdict: NO. I am a first impressionist, and the character designs scared me D:. I think it’s enough reason.

Kyou no Gononi (今日の5の2)
Date: October 5 @ TV Tokyo
Website: http://www.starchild.co.jp/special/gononi/
Trailer: none
Introduction: An ecchi, school-life comedy show about Ryota Satou and his hilarious events and, often perverted, situations that he goes through and ends up in.
Seiyuu Spotlight: Shimoda Asami, Kobayashi Yu
Verdict: MAYBE. The premise gives off an idea of a funnier version of Honey and Clover. However, this means more fanservice, panty shots and other things that made me stop watching Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei. I might try an episode or two and see if I can take the “perverted situations”.

Ga-Rei-Zero (喰霊-零-)
Date: October 5 @ AT-X
Website: http://www.ga-rei.jp/
Trailer: none
Introduction: Freshman Nimura Kensuke has the ability to see ghosts, and his life changes when he meets Kagura, a girl with the power to summon a “Ga-Rei” called Byakuei. The two work together to find evil spirits and devour them with the Ga-Rei.
Seiyuu Spotlight: Kitamura Eri (Yakou – Amatsuki), Maeno Tomoaki (Dojo Atsushi – Toshokan Sensou), Kakihara Tetsuya
Verdict: MAYBE. What’s up with boy-girl partnership anime this season? Another Busou Renkin-like story. The seiyuu are not that popular, but the art is somehow good. I will give this a try.

Vampire Knight Guilty (ヴァンパイア騎士 Guilty)
Date: October 6 @ TV Tokyo
Website: http://www.vampire-knight.jp/
Trailer: here
Introduction: Yuuki wants to know more about her true family and her forgotten past and starts a research. The secret will be revealed. Yuki, Kaname and Zero will show the begining of a new mystery and a forbidden love.
Seiyuu Spotlight: Horie Yui, Miyano Mamoru, Kishio Daisuke, Fukuyama Jun, Suwabe Junichi, Hoshi Souichirou, Chiba Susumu
Verdict: NO. If you want more vampire action, read the Vampire Knight manga. I haven’t really judged VK anime to the point that I call it horrible, but it’s dragging and emo compared to the manga. As I said, if you intend to follow this story, read the manga instead. It’s so much better.

ef – a tale of melodies
Date: October 6 @ AT-X
Website: http://www.ef-melo.com/
Trailer: here
Introduction: A sequel to ef – a tale of memories
Seiyuu Spotlight: Toochika Kouichi, Goto Mai
Verdict: NO. I haven’t been a fan of this series and I don’t think this next season will convince me ^^;.

Bihada Ichizoku (美肌一族)
Date: October 6 @ TV Tokyo
Website: http://www.lovelabo.co.jp/anime/
Trailer: none
Introduction: There is a World Beautiful-Skin Competition (WBC) to which the 3 billion woman of the world aspire to win. Carrying on the 300-year legacy of the competition are twin Bihada sisters, Sara and Saki.
Verdict: YES. IDK, I’m really curious about this anime and how a cosmetics company will be able to pull this off. Will be watching to satiate my curiosity :P.

One Outs (ワンナウツ)
Date: October 7, @ NTV
Website: http://www.ntv.co.jp/oneouts/
Trailer: none
Introduction: Another one of those baseball anime, with the premise: Nobody wins but I.
Verdict: NO. I’ve watched Ookiku Furikabutte, but other than that, I’ve never watched any baseball anime. So, I’m passing on this one, too :).

Moryou no Hakou (魍魎の匣)
Date: October 7 @ NTV
Website: http://www.ntv.co.jp/mouryou/
Introduction: The story follows a series of bizzare murders of schoolgirls who have been dismembered and stuffed into boxes. The private investigator hired by a missing daughters mother joins forces with an antique book seller and others to unravel the murder spree.
Verdict: YES. A gruesome series, really. I might end up getting paranoid or scared or nauseous, depending on the art, but I heard CLAMP is doing the designs so that means beautiful characters. Like I’d miss a detective anime for the world, too :P.

Kurozuka (黒塚)
Date: October 7 @ Animax
Introduction: Kuro, a 12th-century man, flees into the mountains after losing to his brother, where he meets a strange, beautiful woman named Kuromitsu. Kuro falls in love with Kuromitsu but realizes she conceals a dark secret. She is unable to die and continues to live for thousands of years as Japan evolves into a future society.
Seiyuu Spotlight: Miyano Mamoru, Paku Romi, Nakata Jouji
Verdict: MAYBE. Historical series rarely enthrall me. This might not be an exception. Still, Miyano Mamoru and Paku Romi and the mystery of the woman who never dies is still enough to make me download at least an episode and see for myself :).

Tytania (タイタニア)
Date: October 9 @ NHK
Website: http://www.tytania.jp/
Trailer: here
Introduction: The capital of the empire of Euria is attacked by the empire of Titania, a much more powerful enemy that controls a large part of the galaxy. The story follows a soldier who flees the Titania empire and seeks refuge with the rebellion force, that rose up since the battle.
Seiyuu Spotlight: Kishio Daisuke, Yoshino Hiroyuki, Konishi Katsuyuki, Miyake Kenta, Kondo Takashi
Verdict: YES. Tytania reminds me of Heroic Age and Terra E for some reason. I wonder if I’ll be hooked to it as I was with the previous two. I also am quite enamored with the seiyuu cast. Kondo Takashi being the first in the list. I haven’t heard him aside from Hibari in Reborn!.

Nodame Cantabile: Paris (のだめカンタービレ 巴里編)
Date: October 9 @ Fuji TV
Trailer: here
Introduction: The two music students now drive themselves and eathother to greater artistic heights, in Japan and now Europe.
Seiyuu Spotlight: Kawasumi Ayako, Seki Tomokazu, Suwabe Junichi, Nakai Kazuya, Kobayashi Sanae
Verdict: MAYBE. I thought the Nodame series is a bit boring compared to the drama, but I’m willing to give it another chance. Also, classical music keeps reeling me in. I might watch it for the recitals ^^;.

Chaos;HEAd (カオス;ヘッド)
Date: October 9 @ Tokyo MX TV, Chiba TV
Website: http://www.chaoshead.jp/
Trailer: here
Introduction: Takumi is a high school student. He is withdrawn and is not interested in 3D things. In his town, a mysterious serial murder case happens and people get panicked. One day, when he chats on the internet, a man suddenly contacts him and gives him an URL. He goes to the website and finds a blog image that suggests a next murder case…. On the next day, it really happens….
Seiyuu Spotlight: Yoshino Hiroyuki, Kitamura Eri
Verdict: MAYBE. The crime + suspense is making me curious. What makes me hesitate is the pink-haired girl and the definite blood and gore as stated in its game profile ^^;. I hope this turns out to be a very good anime that lives up to its premise.

Junjou Romantica 2 (純情ロマンチカ2)
Date: October 11 @ Tokyo MX TV
Introduction: Sequel to the first season of Junjou Romantica (comprised of Romantica, Egoist and Terrorist)
Seiyuu Spotlight: Sakurai Takahiro, Kishio Daisuke, Hanada Hikaru, Kosugi Juurouta, Itou Kentarou, Canna Nobutoshi, Morikawa Toshiyuki
Verdict: YES. Are you kidding? This is the only BL anime they show on TV. Who am I to decline such blessing and not watch? XD Of the three, Junjou Egoist is my favorite. I hope this is as hilarious and mushy as the first~.

Michiko to Hatchin (ミチコとハッチン)
Date: October 15 @ Fuji TV
Website: http://www.michikotohatchin.com/
Trailer: here
Introduction: Michiko is a free-willed “sexy diva” who destroys a supposedly inescapable fortress, while Hatchin is a girl fleeing her strict foster parents. The two join forces on an improbable escape to freedom.
Seiyuu Spotlight: Suzuka Ougo (Sexy Voice and Robo), Yoko Maki (Battle Royale, The Grudge)
Verdict: MAYBE. The trailer looks really cool and gives off El Cazador de la Bruja vibes, maybe because there are two girls again. I am not very fond of the character design, though, and I’m afraid this is another fanservice anime with references to yurifying the characters, like they did with Venus vs. Virus. The two main seiyuu are new to the industry. They did a bit of acting in dramas and movies, though. I don’t know how promising they are until I hear them :).

Inazuma Eleven (イナズマイレブン)
Date: October @ TV Tokyo
Website: http://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/anime/inazuma/
Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBVDaa43rTY (i think this is 4 the game, idk)
Introduction: The anime focuses on seven students from Rainmon Middle School who form a soccer club and turn it into a competitive team.
Seiyuu Spotlight: Nojima Hirofumi (Francisco, RXJ, Takuto, Gakuen Heaven), Yoshino Hiroyuki, Takeuchi Junko, Orikasa Fumiko, Kobayashi Sanae
Verdict: NO. More soccer anime. I’m not very fond of soccer and I haven’t watched any anime series dedicated to them. I’m going to pass on this one :).

As an addition, here are the OVAs to be released this fall:

Quiz Magic Academy (Sept 12)
Lucky Star (Sept 26)
Goku Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei (Oct 17)
Switch (Oct 24)
Mobile Suit Gundam MS IGLOO 2: Juuryoku Sensen (Oct 24)
Gunslinger Girl – Il Teatrino- (Oct. 24)
Zettai Shougeki ~Platonic Heart~ (Oct. 29)
Seto no Hanayome (Nov. 28)

This year’s fall anime do not fall short of last year’s awesome releases. I do hope that fanservice/ecchi anime will tone down ^^;. We keep getting them in threes to fours every season :P.
